WordPress2.6 Supports Google Gears

From the WordPress ticket #6965, we can see that WordPress2.6 will get Google Gear support. The original description is:

First run. Support for Google Gears managed offline storage. The patch adds all static files used in the admin interface to a single offline storage. That speeds up page loading a lot, as it serves virtually all requests for static files from the computer’s HD instead of the network. So instead of 50-60 requests to the server on some pages, there are only 2-3.

What is Google Gears?
Google Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline. Gears provides three key features:

Generally speaking, Goolge Gears does this by storing information on your machine allowing you to read, edit and update “data” from the internet without actually being connected. And then, the next time you connect to the internet it synchronizes with the website, uploading any changes you’ve made, and downloading any changes/updates that have been made on the site.

Google Gears make WordPress faster
Since you installed Google Gears Plugin for your browser, and enabled “Google Gear”, your browser would download all the information it needs so that WordPress doesn’t need to connect to the internet for certain information. Your blog runs “offline”. No request to the server, less loading time.

Make your blog compatible with Google Gears
WP-Offline is a WordPress plugin that lets your readers cache your entire blog for offline reading using Google Gears. The plugin was released June, 2007. You can find more introduction from the original page.
